The
Bridge Crane at Chaffey's Locks (Continued)
This photo has been taken on the north side of the bridge. The
bridge crane has now gone to the end of the first span and the girder is
now being guided into place. Note the ladder up the side of the centre
pier with two workers guiding the girder into place. Two more workers
are walking the girder to the other end. Note the two booms of the
bridge crane and the complex of cables used to raise and lower the two
booms and the two block-and-tackles suspended from the wire cables.
The young couple sitting in the foreground certainly had front-row seats
for this spectacle.
The girders are now all in place and the bridge crane has moved on.
